This is an Off-Leash Event

WATCH YOUR DOG CAREFULLY - IF THEY CAN'T SEE YOU THEY MAY PANIC AND RUN

Leashes are discouraged at our walks, simply because dogs cannot socialize or exercise together when leashed. Some dogs get very frustrated seeing others play when they cannot. There are many ways to train your dog for off leash play; you can find some good tips by searching the internet for "recall training." If you must use a leash, please use a 4 to 6 foot cloth or leather leash. Long leashes, especially retractable leashes, can be dangerous to other dogs and people.

LEASH LAW  (EXPENSIVE TICKETS FOR VIOLATIONS)

This group walks completely within off-leash-legal areas.

San Francisco's Ocean Beach has two legal jurisdictions - north of Stairwell 21 (from Beach Chalet to Cliff House) and south of Stairwell 21 (Beach Chalet to Sloat Blvd). As of Summer 2015, leashes are still not required north of Stairwell 21, but leashes are required if you take your dog south of Stairwell 21.

Each dog owner is responsible for keeping their dog's off-leash activities within legal areas. Expensive tickets are sometimes issued for violating leash laws. Ocean Beach leash laws may be changing, so please keep an eye on the news and notify the group if you learn of any changes or updates.
